Ibrahim Shuaib

May 2025 - December 2025

ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

In May 2025, we welcomed Ibrahim Shuaib as our third artist to the 315 Artist in Residence program. Ibrahim is a multidisciplinary artist from Nigeria, currently residing in Calgary, Alberta. As a self-taught artist, he explores the balance between chaos and tranquillity, simplifying existential questions of life through art. With a growth mindset and entrepreneurial spirit, Ibrahim is constantly experimenting with different techniques and pushing the limits of each medium he works with to convey thought-provoking messaging through the arts. Ibrahim is an active member and volunteer with various art organizations. His work has been showcased in solo and group exhibitions across Canada.

Stay tuned as Ibrahim brings his creative vision to life throughout his time in the 315 Residency Studio!

ART PRACTICE

Ibrahim seeks to deepen his exploration of memory, identity, and the passage of time through his work. He finds himself immersed in a creative environment that fosters experimentation and growth. Ibrahim is particularly drawn to the opportunity to engage with new people, take inspiration from the studio space and its surroundings, and push the boundaries of his practice.

His art often tackles topics that are commonly avoided, using direction and misdirection to convey his messages in a unique and impactful way.

HIGHLIGHTED WORK: WOVEN THREADS OF TIME

Woven Threads of Time is a series that uses Persian rugs as canvases. This artistic choice is deeply rooted in Ibrahim's childhood experiences growing up in a Muslim family, where prayer mats and rugs were ever-present symbols of ritual, grounding, and cultural heritage.
