Escalator Replacement Project
September 01, 2018
As part of Brookfield’s ongoing commitment to maintain quality assets, provide superior customer service and ensure the utmost safety we have commenced a two year Capital Project to replace all the escalators in the retail area of the complex.
Although we understand this project will be disruptive it is a necessary project as the escalators are nearing the end of their lifecycle and parts have become obsolete leading to lengthy escalator downtime. Additionally, escalator technology has advanced in the past 30 years which has resulted in improved safety features and more energy efficient equipment.
We have retained Ellis Don Construction to manage the overall project and Schindler Canada to supply and replace all 10 of our escalators. Both companies have many years of experience performing escalator replacements and are well renowned in the industry. The project will be completed in four phases, with one section of escalators being removed from service per phase. Within each phase the current escalators will be decommissioned, fully removed from site, and new escalators installed.
As safety is of paramount importance all of this work will occur inside a large hoarded and meshed area where crews will work mostly after hours to minimize disruption as much as possible. Equipment will need to be installed in the retail area to allow for the removal and placement of the escalators. As one phase of the project is completed, the hoarded areas will be relocated and the next phase will begin.
